ESCANABA — Tavaris Jackson, who was found guilty in March of killing 22-year-old Harley Corwin, has been sentenced.
Friday afternoon, Judge John Economopoulos of the Delta County 47th Circuit Court delivered the mandatory sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole with credit for 1,028 days served for Jackson’s conviction of first-degree premeditated murder.
Sentencings for his additional charges will be published in Saturday’s paper.
On March 12, a jury in the Delta County 47th Circuit Court found Jackson, of Escanaba, guilty of first-degree premeditated murder in the July 2023 killing of Corwin, who was pregnant at the time.
Jackson was also convicted of one count of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, a two-year felony; and one count of assault resulting in the death of a fetus, also punishable by up to life imprisonment.
