More road restrictions lifted in Upper Peninsula
LANSING — The Michigan Department of Transportation continues to adjust spring weight restriction areas in an annual move to protect roads.
Effective at 7 a.m. today, weight restrictions will be lifted on all state trunkline highways from the southern Michigan border north to and including U.S. 2 from the Wisconsin border in Ironwood east to M-28 in Wakefield then east on M-28 to I-75, then north on I-75 to the International Bridge in Sault Ste. Marie.
Frost restrictions are still in effect and will be imposed and enforced on all state trunkline highways north and west of the U.S. 2/M-28/I-75 line. State routes typically carry M, I or US designations.
County road commissions and city public works departments put in place their own seasonal weight restrictions, which usually but not always coincide with state highway weight restrictions. Signs are generally posted to indicate which routes have weight restrictions in effect.
