Two transported for medical treatment after truck v. train

BRAMPTON — Two occupants of a passenger vehicle that collided with a Canadian National train were both injured and transported from the scene by emergency responders Thursday afternoon.
A Guardian Flight helicopter landed in a parking lot nearby the accident, which occurred just off M-35.
Among those responding were U.P. Health System, Michigan State Police, Brampton Township Volunteer Fire Department / Auxiliary, Baldwin Township Fire and Rescue, Escanaba Township Volunteer Fire Department, City of Escanaba Public Safety Department, Cornell Volunteer Fire Department and Canadian National.
At the scene, Michigan State Police Sgt. Patrick Janisse said that the primary goal had been to extract the patients from the vehicle. The task was accomplished thanks to the Jaws of Life and collaboration of volunteers and various agencies.
As of the time of this reporting (3 p.m. Thursday), the extent of the two patients’ injuries is unknown.
