High speed crash caused fire, death

MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP — A high speed crash resulted in a vehicle fire and the death of a Marquette Township man, according to the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies were called to a vehicle fire at about 9:50 p.m. Saturday on County Road 492 near Everly Way in Marquette Township.

Deputies said further investigation revealed the vehicle was involved in a high speed crash and had caught fire after leaving the roadway and hitting several trees. The vehicle was fully engulfed in flames when deputies arrived.

The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office believes the sole occupant of the burning vehicle was Alex Duquette, 23, of Marquette Township. Due to the serious injuries received in the crash and fire, a positive identification is pending through DNA analysis.

Excessive speed is believed to be a factor in the crash. The crash remains under investigation.
