Spalding man charged with sexual assault

MENOMINEE — A Spalding man was arraigned earlier this week after he allegedly sexually assaulted an underage victim while committing a violent felony assault.

Troopers from the Michigan State Police – Iron Mountain Post were called to investigate the incident, which occurred on or about Dec. 1, 2021 in Menominee County’s Meyer Township. The investigation revealed 20-year-old Dustin Randal Garvin-Thorbahn was allegedly engaged in sexual penetration of a victim under the age of 16 while in the commission of another felony, assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder or by strangulation.

He was arrested July 9, 2022.

In addition to two counts of the felony assault charge, Garvin-Thorbahn was arraigned Monday in Menominee County on two counts of criminal sexual conduct – first degree (during a felony) and two counts of criminal sexual conduct – third degree (person age 13-15). Bond was set at $20,000 cash.

Garvin-Thorbahn is currently lodged at the Menominee County Jail pending upcoming court hearings scheduled for July 21 and Aug. 15.
