One death, 11 COVID cases reported in Delta County
ESCANABA — Local data Wednesday showed a new death attributed to COVID-19 in Delta County and 11 new confirmed virus positives since April 4, while Menominee County had six new cases in that nine-day span.
The Public Health of Delta and Menominee Counties website Wednesday had Delta County at 7,908 confirmed positives, 2,034 probable cases and 157 deaths since the pandemic began. Menominee County has had 3,952 confirmed positives, 1,685 probables and 64 deaths. The deaths included confirmed and probable.
On the state level, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services coronavirus website Wednesday added 73 confirmed positives to the Upper Peninsula’s tally since April 6: 18 in Marquette and Houghton counties; 13 in Chippewa County; eight in Delta County; four in Menominee County; three in Dickinson, Luce and Alger counties; two in Gogebic and Ontonagon counties; and one in Iron and Mackinac counties; Keweenaw County’s count was reduced by two, Schoolcraft’s by one. The state listed another death blamed on the virus in Houghton and Luce counties.
Using only the MDHHS figures, the Upper Peninsula as of Wednesday has had 51,415 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 834 deaths.
Across the U.P., the MDHHS data site Wednesday had Keweenaw County at 456 confirmed cases and 55 probable, and 12 confirmed deaths and one probable death; Luce County, 665 confirmed cases and 761 probable, 12 confirmed deaths and one probable death; Ontonagon County, 881 confirmed, 105 probable and 35 deaths, three probable; Alger County, 1,058 confirmed, 658 probable and eight deaths, five probable; Schoolcraft County, 1,083 confirmed cases and 667 probable, 13 deaths and three probable; Mackinac County, 1,565 confirmed cases and 841 probable, 28 deaths and two probable; Baraga County, 1,722 confirmed cases, 318 probable and 51 deaths, two probable; Iron County, 2,311 confirmed cases and 333 probable, 71 deaths and 16 probable; Gogebic County, 2,734 confirmed cases and 522 probable, 40 deaths and 29 probable; Chippewa County, 3,436 confirmed cases and 5,072 probable, and 87 deaths, 17 probable; Menominee County, 3,945 confirmed cases, 1,680 probable and 60 deaths, 10 probable; Dickinson County, 4,987 confirmed cases and 2,378 probable, 86 deaths and 22 probable; Houghton County, 6,726 confirmed cases, 1,086 probable, 81 deaths and 11 probable; Delta County, 7,898 confirmed cases and 2,027 probable, 133 deaths and 24 probable; and Marquette County, 11,948 confirmed cases, 3,029 probable and 117 deaths, 10 probable. State figures can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.
The MDHHS on Wednesday had 7,725 new confirmed and probable coronavirus positives in Michigan since April 6, or an average of about 1,104 per day for the week’s span, for a total of 2,400,990 cases since COVID tracking began. The state for that period added 81 confirmed and probable deaths attributed to the virus to reach 35,857.
The state last week switched to updating COVID-19 data once a week, on Wednesdays only.
