3 additional COVID-19 deaths locally
ESCANABA — Local data showed Delta County with three more deaths blamed on COVID-19, along with 36 new confirmed positives in the past two days.
Delta County also had 16 probable virus cases, while Menominee County had 11 confirmed positives and 13 probables since Monday, according to Public Health of Delta and Menominee Counties website.
The PHDM on Wednesday had Delta County at 5,837 confirmed positives, 1,332 probable cases and 135 deaths. Menominee County has had 3,080 confirmed positives, 1,144 probables and 60 deaths. The deaths included confirmed and probable.
At the state level, figures on the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services coronavirus website Wednesday indicated 266 new confirmed COVID-19 positives in the Upper Peninsula since Monday: 92 in Marquette County, 35 in Delta County, 28 in Dickinson County, 21 in Houghton County, 18 in Chippewa County, 13 in Menominee County, 11 in Gogebic County, nine in Iron and Mackinac counties, eight in Luce and Alger counties, five in Baraga and Ontonagon counties, and two in Schoolcraft and Keweenaw counties. The state recorded the three more deaths in Delta County, along with two in Marquette County and one each in Dickinson, Iron and Houghton counties.
Using only the MDHHS numbers, the Upper Peninsula as of Wednesday has had 35,968 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 653 deaths.
Across the U.P., the MDHHS data site Wednesday had Keweenaw County at 348 confirmed cases and 43 probable, and 10 confirmed deaths and one probable death; Luce County, 478 confirmed cases and 563 probable, four confirmed deaths and one probable death; Ontonagon County, 674 confirmed, 78 probable and 26 deaths, one probable; Alger County, 696 confirmed, 400 probable and six deaths, five probable; Schoolcraft County, 819 confirmed cases and 384 probable, seven deaths and one probable; Mackinac County, 1,102 confirmed cases and 600 probable, 17 deaths and two probable; Baraga County, 1,281 confirmed cases, 213 probable and 46 deaths, two probable; Iron County, 1,682 confirmed cases and 191 probable, 58 deaths and 13 probable; Gogebic County, 1,901 confirmed cases and 429 probable, 33 deaths and 29 probable; Chippewa County, 2,118 confirmed cases and 3,014 probable, and 52 deaths, 12 probable; Menominee County, 3,075 confirmed cases, 1,141 probable and 52 deaths, eight probable; Dickinson County, 3,679 confirmed cases and 1,440 probable, 75 deaths and 18 probable; Houghton County, 4,805 confirmed cases, 863 probable, 62 deaths and 11 probable; Delta County, 5,829 confirmed cases and 1,325 probable, 113 deaths and 22 probable; and Marquette County, 7,481 confirmed cases, 1,765 probable and 92 deaths, five probable. State figures can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.
The MDHHS on Wednesday had 25,858 new confirmed coronavirus positives in Michigan since Monday, or an average of about 12,929 per day for the two-day period, for a total to date of 1,507,338. The state since Monday added 338 deaths attributed to the virus — including 232 that occurred earlier but were recently verified through a vital records review — to reach 26,988.
The state issues new COVID-19 data on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays but will not have a report this Friday due to the New Year’s holiday.
