New virus death in Delta County
ESCANABA — Local data Wednesday showed COVID-19 activity rising in Menominee County, with 48 more confirmed positives since Monday, exceeding the 31 new cases in Delta County in the same period.
Public Health of Delta and Menominee Counties did add a virus-related death in Delta County. Menominee County’s probable case count also went up by 41 and Delta County’s probables by 12 for the past two days.
The PHDM website Wednesday had Delta County at 4,378 confirmed positives, 960 probable cases and 101 deaths to date. Menominee County has had 2,371 confirmed positives, 678 probables and 44 deaths. The deaths included confirmed and probable.
At the state level, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services coronavirus website Wednesday listed 335 new confirmed COVID-19 positives in the Upper Peninsula since Monday: 75 in Marquette County, 33 in Delta County, 30 in Menominee County, 29 in Houghton County, 24 in Schoolcraft County, 23 in Chippewa County, 22 in Mackinac County, 21 in Gogebic County, 20 in Alger County, 19 in Dickinson County, 12 in Luce County, 11 in Iron County, 10 in Baraga County, four in Ontonagon County, and two in Keweenaw County. The state recorded seven more deaths blamed on the virus for the region, two in both Dickinson and Chippewa counties, and one each in Iron, Baraga and Mackinac counties.
Using only the MDHHS numbers, the Upper Peninsula as of Wednesday has had 25,451 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 489 deaths.
Across the U.P., the MDHHS data Wednesday had Keweenaw County at 189 confirmed cases and 34 probable, and three confirmed death and one probable death; Luce County, 289 confirmed cases and 350 probable, four confirmed deaths and one probable death; Alger County, 493 confirmed, 277 probable and three deaths, five probable; Ontonagon County, 513 confirmed, 65 probable and 21 deaths, one probable; Schoolcraft County, 519 confirmed cases and 173 probable, four deaths and one probable; Mackinac County, 735 confirmed cases and 378 probable, seven deaths; Baraga County, 869 confirmed cases, 148 probable and 42 deaths, three probable; Iron County, 1,195 confirmed cases and 108 probable, 44 deaths and 10 probable; Gogebic County, 1,289 confirmed cases and 379 probable, 24 deaths and 29 probable; Chippewa County, 1,420 confirmed cases and 1,945 probable, and 35 deaths, five probable; Menominee County, 2,364 confirmed cases, 673 probable and 44 deaths, four probable; Dickinson County, 2,886 confirmed cases and 795 probable, 62 deaths and 15 probable; Houghton County, 2,985 confirmed cases, 664 probable, 43 deaths and 10 probable; Delta County, 4,366 confirmed cases and 951 probable, 83 deaths and 19 probable; and Marquette County, 5,339 confirmed cases, 1,168 probable and 70 deaths, one probable. State figures can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.
The MDHHS on Wednesday had 7,674 confirmed new coronavirus positives in Michigan since Monday, or an average of 3,837 per day for the two days, for a total to date of 1,047,011. The state Wednesday added 92 deaths attributed to the virus — including 47 that occurred earlier but were recently verified through a vital records review — to reach 21,231.
