Delta County virus deaths climb to 102

ESCANABA — Local data Wednesday showed 45 new confirmed COVID-19 positives — plus another death blamed on the virus — in Delta County and 21 more cases in Menominee County since Monday. Public Health of Delta and Menominee Counties also added 21 probable coronavirus cases in Delta County and 34 probables in Menominee County over the past two days.

The PHDM website Wednesday had Delta County at 4,528 confirmed positives, 997 probable cases and 102 deaths to date. Menominee County has had 2,449 confirmed positives, 737 probables and 44 deaths. The deaths included confirmed and probable.

At the state level, figures on the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services coronavirus website Wednesday indicated 335 new confirmed COVID-19 positives in the Upper Peninsula since Monday: 60 in Marquette County, 51 in Houghton County, 40 in Delta County, 27 in Dickinson County, 24 in Baraga County, 22 in Iron County, 21 in Menominee County, 20 in Chippewa County, 19 in Mackinac County, 13 in Alger County, 11 in Schoolcraft County, 10 in Gogebic County, nine in Luce County and four each in Keweenaw and Ontonagon counties. The state had two new virus-related deaths in Dickinson County and one each in Delta and Chippewa counties.

Using only the MDHHS numbers, the Upper Peninsula as of Wednesday has had 26,438 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 496 deaths.

Across the U.P., the MDHHS data Wednesday had Keweenaw County at 199 confirmed cases and 34 probable, and three confirmed death and one probable death; Luce County, 313 confirmed cases and 365 probable, four confirmed deaths and one probable death; Ontonagon County, 525 confirmed, 65 probable and 21 deaths, one probable; Alger County, 533 confirmed, 288 probable and three deaths, five probable; Schoolcraft County, 556 confirmed cases and 179 probable, four deaths and one probable; Mackinac County, 787 confirmed cases and 400 probable, seven deaths; Baraga County, 906 confirmed cases, 149 probable and 43 deaths, two probable; Iron County, 1,248 confirmed cases and 114 probable, 44 deaths and 10 probable; Gogebic County, 1,348 confirmed cases and 406 probable, 24 deaths and 29 probable; Chippewa County, 1,471 confirmed cases and 2,086 probable, and 36 deaths, six probable; Menominee County, 2,442 confirmed cases, 726 probable and 44 deaths, four probable; Dickinson County, 2,954 confirmed cases and 853 probable, 64 deaths and 16 probable; Houghton County, 3,097 confirmed cases, 679 probable, 44 deaths and 10 probable; Delta County, 4,512 confirmed cases and 980 probable, 84 deaths and 19 probable; and Marquette County, 5,547 confirmed cases, 1,202 probable and 71 deaths, two probable. State figures can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

The MDHHS on Wednesday had 8,671 confirmed new coronavirus positives in Michigan since Monday, or an average of about 4,335 per day for the two days, for a total to date of 1,073,228. The state Wednesday added 110 deaths attributed to the virus — including 58 that occurred earlier but were recently verified through a vital records review — to reach 21,459.
