Virus cases continue to climb locally
ESCANABA — State COVID-19 data Friday showed six new confirmed positives in Delta County and one new case in Schoolcraft County.
The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services’ coronavirus website Friday listed a total of 39 new confirmed positives in the Upper Peninsula, capping a week of steadily rising cases: 11 in Houghton County; seven in Chippewa County; six in Delta and Marquette counties; four in Mackinac County; two in Alger County; and one each in Dickinson, Ontonagon, Keweenaw and Schoolcraft counties; Baraga County’s count was reduced by one.
Using only the state’s figures, the Upper Peninsula as of Friday has had 16,756 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 393 deaths.
Across the U.P., the MDHHS data site Friday had Keweenaw County at 122 confirmed cases and 31 probable, and one death and one probable death; Luce County, 133 confirmed cases and 108 probable, one probable death; Schoolcraft County, 236 confirmed cases and 36 probable, four deaths and one probable; Alger County, 282 confirmed, 158 probable and one death, four probable; Mackinac County, 301 confirmed cases and 158 probable, three deaths; Ontonagon County, 368 confirmed, 56 probable and 20 deaths, one probable; Baraga County, 511 confirmed cases, 103 probable and 33 deaths; Chippewa County, 762 confirmed cases and 1,065 probable, and 24 deaths, four probable; Iron County, 868 confirmed cases and 60 probable, 41 confirmed deaths and nine probable; Gogebic County, 952 confirmed cases and 353 probable, 21 confirmed deaths and 28 probable; Menominee County, 1,634 confirmed cases, 271 probable and 38 deaths, two probable; Dickinson County, 2,153 confirmed cases and 248 probable, 55 confirmed deaths and 16 probable; Houghton County, 2,201 confirmed cases, 545 probable, 31 confirmed deaths and eight probable; Delta County, 2,719 confirmed cases and 497 probable, 66 confirmed deaths and 19 probable; and Marquette County, 3,514 confirmed cases, 550 probable and 55 deaths, one probable. State numbers are updated almost daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.
The MDHHS on Friday posted 3,730 confirmed new coronavirus positives in Michigan for a total of 622,151. The state added 15 new deaths Friday to reach 15,850.
