The COVID-19 pandemic has changed the way art is shown at the Bonifas Arts Center in Escanaba, but that didn’t stop Upper Peninsula Artists from showing off their work in the 27th annual Northern Exposure regional competition. The artist reception and awards ceremony was held virtually on Facebook Live Thursday, but the exhibit of work will remain on display through Dec. 29 and is free to view for anyone visiting the Bonifas. Above, “The White Pantsuit Project,” a project by Deborah Abramson celebrating feminist ideals through glass delica and lampwork beads, stands along side other works including Carol Irving’s fiber piece “Banish Misfortune II” (left) and Brian Burroughs’ graphite piece “Our Imperiled Incubator Part III” (far right). All three pieces were made by artists from Escanaba and received awards Thursday.
