MARQUETTE COUNTY — On Thursday, authorities named 31-year-old Marquette resident Trevor Caponcello Restivo as the suspect in Wednesday night’s shooting and police chase in Marquette County.

According to the Marquette Police Department, Restivo allegedly fled the scene of a shooting in Marquette before leading officers on a pursuit that ended in a fiery crash at the Krist gas station on U.S. 41 in Negaunee.

Restivo faces ten charges authorized by the Marquette County Prosecutor’s Office on Wednesday, including: two counts of assault with intent to murder; one count of weapons – firearms – discharge in or at a building causing serious impairment; one count of weapons – firearms – discharge in or at a building causing injury; four counts of weapons felony firearm; one count of interfering with electronic communications causing injury or death; and one count of police officer – fleeing – second degree

The charges stem from an incident that began at approximately 9:14 p.m. Wednesday when officers with the Marquette Police Department responded to 616 W. Baraga Ave. Apt. 1 following a 911 call reporting a disturbance involving multiple people.

Upon arrival, officers found one man with apparent gunshot wounds inside the apartment. A second man was also located in the apartment with minor injuries.

Information from the victims on scene identified Restivo as an occupant of the residence where the incident occurred, according to authorities. Officers also received information that Restivo had fled the scene in a vehicle owned by one of the men sustaining injuries.

A Be on the Lookout (BOL) was subsequently aired for Restivo and the vehicle, which was observed a short time later by a Michigan State Police (MSP) Trooper on US-41 in Negaunee Township.

According to a news release, the vehicle increased in speed and fled from the trooper westbound. A pursuit was initiated.

As the vehicle was traveling westbound on US-41 in the City of Negaunee, it departed the south side of the highway at a high rate of speed and struck diesel fuel pumps located at the Krist gas station.

The crash caused the vehicle and pumps to catch fire, though Restivo was able to exit the vehicle and was taken into custody.

Authorities reported that no members of the public or law enforcement personnel were injured in either the crash or the resulting fire.

Restivo sustained injuries from the vehicle crash and was transported to UPHS-Marquette for treatment Wednesday. He remained at the hospital in the custody of the Marquette Police Department until his discharge on Thursday.

Following his release from the hospital, Restivo was lodged at the Marquette County Jail and remains in custody.

On Thursday, the Marquette Police Department revealed the man suffering from gunshot injuries in the Marquette apartment was determined to a 33-year-old Marquette resident.

Authorities said he was transported from the scene to UPHS-Marquette for treatment of his injuries and remains hospitalized in stable condition.

The second man that sustained minor injuries was determined to be a 68-year-old Marquette resident who was transported to UPHS-Marquette for treatment of non-gunshot injuries, according to authorities. He was released from the hospital following treatment.

On Wednesday, MSP assured the community there was no current danger to the public. The individuals involved were reportedly known to one another, and the incident is believed to be isolated.

Assisting the Marquette Police Department was the Northern Michigan University Police Department, MSP, Marquette County Sheriff’s Office, Negaunee Police Department, Marquette City Fire and UPHS EMS.
