Weekend crash sends 3 to hospital

CEDARVILLE TOWNSHIP — Multiple people were injured in a two-vehicle crash that temporarily closed M-35 in both directions in Cedarville Township Saturday afternoon.

Troopers from the Michigan State Police Gladstone Post responded to the crash, which took place on M-35 in front of the Cedar River Plaza in Cedarville Township. A northbound vehicle had attempted a left-hand turn into the plaza but turned into the path of a southbound vehicle.

The northbound vehicle’s driver sustained severe but non-life-threatening injuries as a result of the collision. He was transported to Bay Area Medical Center in Marinette by Mid County Rescue from Stephenson.

The driver’s infant daughter was also in the vehicle but was properly restrained in an infant seat at the time of the crash and was uninjured as a result.

Two male subjects occupying the southbound vehicle had to be extricated from the vehicle. The driver was transported to Bay Area Medical Center by Bay Area Ambulance services. The passenger sustained severe injuries to his lower extremities and was flown from the scene to UP Health System – Marquette by Valley Med Flight. He was in stable condition as of Tuesday morning.

The highway was completely shut down in both directions Saturday while police responded to the incident. It re-opened by 8:30 p.m. Eastern.

Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash. The incident remains under investigation.

As of Tuesday morning, additional details about the crash, including the names of those involved, was not available.

The Michigan State Police Gladstone Post was assisted at the scene by the Menominee County Sheriff Department, Mid County Rescue and Extrication, Cedarville Township Fire Department, Bay Area EMS, Rampart EMS, Valley Med Flight, the Menominee County Road Commission, the Delta County Road Commission and several concerned citizens.
