GLADSTONE — At least four candidates will participate in the political forum held this evening at the American Legion hall in Gladstone.

Organized by the Delta County Republicans and Menominee County Republicans, the event will pose questions to individuals seeking to represent Michigan’s 108th District in the House of Representatives. The position is one of 110 in the Michigan House and serves all of Delta, Luce, Menominee, and Schoolcraft counties and parts of Chippewa and Mackinac counties. Currently, the seat is occupied by Dave Prestin (R-Cedar River), who is not seeking re-election but running for House Senate instead.

Six Republicans and one Democrat are vying for the role. The primary election in August will determine who will be the Republican forerunner and proceed to face the Democrat in the general election in November.

Tonight’s forum is designed to enable voters to make the best choice in the primary. All six Republican candidates were invited.

According to an update from the Delta County Republican Party on Wednesday, three will attend in person: Larry Johnson, Chris Reynolds and Steve Viau. Daryl Schroeder plans to attend by Zoom as soon as his 4:30 p.m. Mackinac County Commission meeting concludes. Kurt Perron has mandatory training and is not sure if he can make the Zoom, organizers relayed. Casey Hoffman has not responded.

The Republican Parties of Delta and Menominee Counties have been accumulating questions to pose to the candidates, who will have one minute to answer.

The forum will be held at the Gladstone American Legion Post 71 at 802 Delta Ave. this evening. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and the forum begins at 7 p.m. Attendees are asked to RSVP to 715-297-3994.

In addition to the six Republicans, Democrat Rachel Keys is also running for the seat.

Starting at $4.00/week.
