St. Vincent de Paul picked as CBC third charity
MANISTIQUE — As the 2020 CBC fundraising season continues, St. Vincent de Paul of Manistique has been chosen as the third charity the CBC Fund Drive will support this year.
Money raised through the annual fund drive goes towards three causes — the American Cancer Society, Bay Cliff Health Camp and a third charitable organization that changes each year. Six organizations were interested in being the third charity supported by the fund drive in 2020.
Charities eligible for this position must serve residents of Schoolcraft County, have a current 501(c)(3) designation and fulfill at least one of the following community needs: access to food and clothing; poverty; access to health care or the health welfare of the community.
St. Vincent de Paul was chosen for a number of reasons, CBC organizers said.
“Given the extraordinary time we find ourselves in during the COVID-19 pandemic we see St. Vincent de Paul as a known resource and a long-standing local community partner supporting health and wellbeing of our community. They have the flexibility to support a broad array of needs which is (important) during these constantly changing times,” organizers stated.
A letter sent to St. Vincent de Paul by members of the 2020 CBC Committee provided additional information on the needs the organization helps fulfill in the area.
“Your application highlighted key programs that were important to us in supporting the health and welfare of our community: clothing, food, utilities, lodging, medical transportation, medical bills, prescriptions, or any other emergency need,” the letter stated.
The letter also noted that, while CBC was unable to complete its annual Palm Sunday fundraiser, it had gotten some fundraising done before the pandemic and is hoping to do additional fundraising before its fiscal year closes out on June 15. Contributions to the CBC Fund Drive received by that date will go to the American Cancer Society, Bay Cliff Health Camp and St. Vincent de Paul.
