GLADSTONE — A forum for Republican candidates seeking to represent the 108th district in the Michigan House of Representatives is scheduled to occur Thursday, June 25 at 802 Delta Ave. in Gladstone.

The position — which serves all of Delta, Luce, Menominee, and Schoolcraft counties as well as parts of Chippewa and Mackinac counties — is currently filled by Dave Prestin, R-Cedar River, who is approaching the end of his third term.

Currently, there are seven people campaigning to take over the seat and represent this portion of the Upper Peninsula in Lansing. Six are Republicans: Casey Hoffman, Larry Johnson, Kurt Perron, Chris Reynolds, Daryl Schroeder and Steven Viau.

A primary election on Aug. 4 will narrow down the candidates to one forerunner for the party. The prevailing Republican will go head-to-head with Rachel Keys — the only Democrat running — in November.

Designed to help voters determine who to vote for in the primary, the event on Thursday will pose questions to participating candidates. Organized and cosponsored by the Delta County Republican Party and the Menominee County Republicans, the forum will be held at the Gladstone American Legion Post 71 at 802 Delta. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, and the forum begins at 7 p.m.

So far, Johnson, reynolds and Schroeder have confirmed their attendance, an organizer reported.

A flyer for the event states that all candidates have been invited for the opportunity to “share their vision, answer your questions and discus the issues that matter most.”

Snacks and beverages will be available. People wishing to attend are requested to RSVP to Lisa Pieczynski at 715-297-3994.

Starting at $4.00/week.
