Two dead following head-on crash

WAUCEDAH TOWNSHIP — Two residents of Tipler, Wis. were killed and two Suamico, Wis. residents were injured in a two-vehicle crash in Waucedah Township Thursday.

At about 2:41 p.m. Thursday deputies of the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a collision on U.S. 2 near Alfredson Road in the township. A black 2013 Chevrolet Equinox was apparently traveling westbound on U.S. 2 when it crossed the road’s center line and hit a white 2017 GMC Sierra towing an enclosed snowmobile trailer head-on. After the impact, both vehicles came to a stop on the south shoulder of U.S. 2.

Speed and road conditions were believed to be factors in the crash.

The occupants of the Equinox — the 56-year-old male driver and a 59-year-old female, both from Tipler — were pronounced dead at the scene. The two occupants of the Sierra, both residents of Suamico, were transported to Dickinson County Healthcare System to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The sheriff’s office was assisted at the scene by Michigan State Police Iron Mountain Post, Norway Police Department, Menominee County Sheriff’s Office, Integrity Care EMS, North Alert EMS, Norway Fire Department, Hermansville Rescue, Dickinson County Road Commission, Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office Victim’s Advocate Unit and Joe’s and LR Vincent wreckers.

As of Friday morning, the names of the individuals involved in the crash had not been released. The crash remains under investigation.
