Electrical issue may have caused house fire
ESCANABA — The cause of the fire that heavily damaged a two-story building on 1st Avenue South in Escanaba Saturday is pointing towards electrical issues, according to authorities.
Escanaba Public Safety provided an update on the fire that occurred at 1315 1st Ave. S. in Escanaba at 2:18 a.m. Saturday.
Police said the cause of the fire is could be electrical issues and that the blaze was not suspicious in nature.
According to officers, the fire started in the basement of the two-story dwelling, which contained two apartments, then spread to the upper levels and into the attic. Officers said the blaze was extremely difficult to get at due to the interior structure and damage to the building.
All occupants of the building were able to get out of the building and no injuries were reported. Officers were able to rescue one cat from the fire, however, some other pets were not accounted for.
Escanaba Public Safety officers remained on scene for around 8 1/2 hours.
The building sustained heavy fire, smoke and water damage, according to police.
