Schoolcraft Memorial Hospital launches Pluvicto therapy, first in Upper Peninsula

MANISTIQUE, MI. — May 18, 2026 – Schoolcraft Memorial Hospital, in collaboration with Green Bay Oncology, has launched a new Nuclear Medicine service line offering Pluvicto (lutetium Lu-177 vipivotide tetraxetan), an FDA-approved targeted therapy for patients with advanced metastatic prostate cancer.

With this addition, Schoolcraft Memorial Hospital is the only provider in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula offering this highly specialized treatment, bringing advanced cancer care closer to home. “Establishing a Nuclear Medicine Therapy Clinic with Schoolcraft Memorial Hospital and offering the first Pluvicto treatments in the Upper Peninsula reflects our deep commitment to expanding access to cutting-edge nuclear medicine therapies in underserved communities. We are excited to partner with referring physicians and deliver compassionate, state-of-the-art care that combines advanced technology with the personalized attention our patients deserve” said Dr. Erich Smith, Director of Nuclear Medicine Therapy Clinic at Schoolcraft Memorial Hospital.

Pluvicto is designed for patients with metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer. Previously, patients were required to travel to lower Michigan or out-of-state facilities for treatment, creating significant challenges for those with advanced disease.

“This is a major step forward for cancer care in the Upper Peninsula,” said Rob Mach, chief executive officer of Schoolcraft Memorial Hospital. “By offering Pluvicto locally, we are removing barriers to care and ensuring our patients can access treatment without leaving their community.”

The therapy is administered intravenously every six weeks for a total of six cycles over approximately eight months. Each visit lasts about one hour and includes a brief infusion followed by monitoring.

Treatments are delivered in a specialized Nuclear Medicine setting at Schoolcraft Memorial Hospital, following all required safety protocols for radiopharmaceutical therapies.

“This collaboration allows us to bring highly specialized oncology treatment into a rural setting without compromising quality,” Dr. Ryan from Green Bay Oncology shared.
