Danforth home suffers heavy damage

ESCANABA — An Escanaba home received extensive smoke and water damage from a fire Friday morning.

The fire was reported at 9:02 a.m. Friday. When Escanaba Public Safety firefighters arrived at the home, located at 4921 Karen 17.25 St. and owned by John Ratliff, they saw heavy smoke inside and found a couch on fire. The fire was extinguished and the couch was removed from the house.

No injuries were reported as a result of the fire. However, at least one cat and possibly a second cat died. A dog tied up outside the home survived the incident.

Firefighters were on the scene for about 45 minutes. Escanaba Public Safety was assisted by Escanaba Township Fire Department, Delta County Sheriff’s Office, DTE Energy and UPPCO on the scene.

As of Friday, the cause of the fire was under investigation.
