Sault Tribe, Inc. addresses pot dispensary closures
SAULT STE MARIE, Mich. — Sault Tribe, Inc (STI) leases commercial property in three locations utilized by Lume Cannabis Co. (Lume), the largest cannabis company in Michigan. Lume’s management has advised STI that, effective July 11, they intend to close their Christmas location in the Upper Peninsula.
Under the lease agreement, Lume leased land for commercial development and constructed cannabis dispensaries at no cost to STI. Lume will honor their lease with STI; therefore, the closure of their Christmas dispensary will not impact STI’s business operations.
“We have a good relationship with Lume,” said STI’s Chief Executive Officer, Joel Schultz. “We understand companies must realign priorities and redirect resources to advance their mission toward a long-term vision. STI will continue collecting monthly payments from Lume, established under the existing lease agreement.”
Schultz says the STI Board of Directors will work with Lume, the Sault Tribe, and the local community to explore other uses for the commercial property and building located on trust land.
