Delta County Landfill gets COVID funds
ESCANABA — Delta County Landfill was allocated $500,000 from recent COVID funds that Delta County had received. This money will help with the unexpected costs of building a needed cell at the landfill, which rose in price due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Delta County Landfill had originally saved enough money to cover the cost of building the new cell, but with price increases the Landfill had to raise rates and obtain a bond for $1,250,000 to cover costs.
The designation of money from the county will allow Delta County Landfill to drop its rates by 50 cents per ton for 2023. The landfill will be passing on all savings as a result of this bond to Delta County residents in the form of lower tipping fees with no increases in 2023. This money well allow Delta County Landfill to pay off some of their bond debt, therefore assisting them in saving for the building of their next cell in the future.
