Gladstone BraveBots heading to state finals

Gladstone BraveBots

GLADSTONE — The Gladstone BraveBots competed in a district robotics event in Kingsford recently. The BraveBots finished 11-1 in qualification rounds and were ranked number two going into playoffs. The Kingsford Tournament drew 34 teams, including Fenton who finished ranked number one, Escanaba ranked seventh, Mid Pen ranked 10th and the Gladstone Happy Rock (Apprentice BraveBot team) ranked 12th.

“Delta County was well represented at this event” said coach Tim Barron. “Four out of the five teams from Delta County finished in the top 30 percent”.

The BraveBots chose an alliance with the Calumet Copper Bots and the Negaunee Minor Bots and went on to finish the tournament in second place. Unfortunately, in their first round of tournament play the BraveBots had to beat out their own apprentice team.

“It is very hard to compete against teammates that work and play alongside you all season. We are fortunate to have an apprentice team. The Happy Rock BraveBots are a team of 6-8th graders who compete at the varsity level. These kids bring a lot of energy to the robot room. We couldn’t be prouder that they are able to compete at such a high level at their age and were able to qualify for the finals.” said Barron.

Both the BraveBots and their apprentice team Happy Rock, qualified for the state finals to be held this weekend in Saginaw. They will compete against the top 160 teams in Michigan with hopes to qualify for the world competition to be held in Houston, Texas April 20-23.
