Bay hosts annual SkillsUSA Competition
ESCANABA — Governor Whitmer has proclaimed February to be Career and Technical Education (CTE) Month in Michigan. As stated in the Governor’s proclamation, CTE exists to “encourage youths and adults in Michigan to be ambassadors for career and technical education, and to send the message that Michigan career and technical education students are prepared for 21st century high-wage, high-skilled, and in-demand jobs”.
In a fitting coincidence, the best career and technical students from across the Upper Peninsula will compete in various skills categories on Friday, February 11, 2022, in the annual SkillsUSA competition hosted by Bay College.
The program will begin at 9:45 a.m. and will conclude at 2:30 p.m. with an awards ceremony.
Student competitions are held in Automotive, Computer Maintenance Technology, Precision Machining Technology, and Welding.
Along with medals for the top three places, Bay will award four $2,500 scholarships to students who place first in the overall categories, and four $1,000 scholarships to the students who place second in the overall categories.
