Man arrested for felonious assault
NEGAUNEE TOWNSHIP — A man has been arrested after he allegedly fired a long gun during a dispute over ownership of an ATV.
State Police from the Negaunee Post were dispatched to a residence on Midway Drive in Negaunee Township on Saturday afternoon for a report of a dispute between three men regarding the purchase and ownership of an ATV. The dispute centered around the sale of the ATV where a person believed they owned the vehicle and went to remove the vehicle from another person’s property. That person would not allow the ATV to be removed from his property and an altercation took place.
A long gun was retrieved by the owner of the residence and a shot was allegedly fired after he made threatening statements. The residence owner left the scene on a four-wheeler and was eventually located by law enforcement where he was taken into custody. He was lodged at the Marquette County Jail and charged with two counts of felonious assault and also had two outstanding warrants. No injuries took place during this incident.
Troopers were assisted by deputies from the Marquette County Sheriff’s Department and officers from Negaunee Police Department. Names are being withheld pending arraignment.
