U.P. COVID-1 cases reach 15,630
ESCANABA — As of Friday, the U.P. had 15,630 confirmed cases of COVID-19, 3,773 probable cases, 358 deaths and 79 probable deaths linked to the disease, according to state officials.
The figure does not include prisoners in the Michigan Department of Corrections.
According to the state’s county-by-county count issued Friday, Delta County had a total of 2,593 confirmed COVID-19 cases, 458 probable cases, 62 deaths and 18 probable deaths; Menominee County had 1,569 confirmed cases, 254 probable cases, 34 deaths and two probable deaths; Schoolcraft County had 225 confirmed cases, 23 probable cases, four deaths and one probable death.
The LMAS District Health Department, which serves Luce, Mackinac, Alger and Schoolcraft County has reported 1052 recovered cases or probable cases, as of Thursday. However, more recoveries are possible, as the LMAS Health District only reports their cases weekly.
Elsewhere in the peninsula, Alger County had 253 confirmed cases, 147 probable cases, one death and two probable deaths; Baraga County had 485 confirmed cases, 90 probable cases, and 30 deaths; Chippewa County had 681 confirmed cases, 995 probable cases, 19 deaths and two probable deaths; Dickinson County had 2,079 confirmed cases, 225 probable cases, 56 deaths and 14 probable deaths; Gogebic County had 803 confirmed cases, 311 probable cases, 15 deaths and 24 probable deaths; Houghton County had 1,925 confirmed cases, 469 probable cases, 29 deaths and seven probable deaths; Iron County had 840 confirmed cases, 61 probable cases, 35 deaths and six probable deaths; Keweenaw County had 100 confirmed cases, 24 probable cases, one death and one probable death; Luce County had 129 confirmed cases, and 72 probable cases; Mackinac County had 272 confirmed cases, 141 probable cases, and three deaths; Marquette County had 3,369 confirmed cases, 471 probable cases, 53 deaths and one probable death; and Ontonagon County had 307 confirmed cases, 32 probable cases, 16 deaths and one probable death.
The state does not include infections or deaths within the Michigan Department of Corrections system in county-by-county counts, however, as of Thursday, the MDOC had 22,567 confirmed cases, 667 probable cases, 134 deaths and three probable deaths.
In the U.P., Alger Correctional Facility has had 140 confirmed cases, six of which are currently active infections, 22 confirmed staff cases; Baraga Correctional Facility has had 169 confirmed cases, with six active infections, one death 82 confirmed staff cases; Chippewa Correctional Facility has had 1,802 confirmed cases, 80 of which were active, eight deaths, 180 confirmed staff cases; Kinross Correctional Facility has had 1,135 confirmed cases, 120 of which are active, eight deaths, 138 confirmed staff cases; Marquette Branch Prison has had 849 confirmed case, nine of which are active and 278 confirmed staff cases; and Newberry Correctional Facility has had 853 confirmed cases, 39 of which are active, one death and 67 confirmed staff cases.
