Veterans can connect with VA with app
IRON MOUNTAIN — VA Video Connect (VVC) allows veterans enrolled in VA health care a new way to connect with their VA primary care, mental health, or specialty care provider using a computer or smart device, like a cell phone or tablet. With an email address and the downloaded app, a Veteran can connect from any location.
This program works well, especially in rural areas where it is more difficult to get to a VA facility, according to VA officials. “We have many veterans who say that this saves them a lot of money in travel expenses,” says Amanda Rudnick, telehealth coordinator. “It also allows veterans to have their appointments at home if they need to.”
This is how it works. If Veterans are interested in utilizing VA Video Connect, they are encouraged to contact their provider to set up for a future appointment. The VA will reach out to perform a test call to ensure the Veteran’s equipment is functioning prior to using the VA Video Connect app with a provider.
The clinic and veteran set up the appointment time and date, and the clinic sends an email to the Veteran with a link to the appointment. At the designated time, the provider will access the app and call the Veteran through the app. Once the Veteran answers, they are considered connected in the secure Virtual Medical Room.
Some of the clinical services being offered through VA Video Connect are: Primary Care, Nutrition, Diabetic Education, Palliative/Hospice, Social Work, Whole Health, Weight Management, Mental Health, Pharmacy, CPAP, and ALS clinic. Veterans who are interested should reach out to their individual providers to participate.
