Model train donations sought

GLADTSONE – The Gladstone Michigan Soo Line Steam Engine #730 Authority is inviting community members to take part in preserving railroad history by donating model train sets and related items for an upcoming Soo Line display event in and around the Gladstone area.

Not connected to the City of Gladstone government, the Gladstone Michigan Soo Line Steam Engine #730 Authority is an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit, “proud to be part of the Gladstone community-based organizations working in Gladstone, dedicated to the preservation and education of local Soo Line Railroad and Gladstone history,” the organization said in a press release.

They intend to ultimately open a museum, the site for which has not yet been determined.

To that end, the organization is seeking donations of model train sets (working or non-working), track and accessories, buildings, scenery and display pieces. All gauges, including HO, N, O, and G scale are acceptable.

“These items will help create engaging public displays while supporting fundraising efforts for the Engine #730 Preservation Care Fund and the long-term vision of a combined Welcome Center and Museum for the community,” the release stated.

“This is more than just a display — it’s an opportunity to carry forward a piece of our railroad heritage,” said John Pickard, President of the Gladstone Michigan Soo Line Steam Engine #730 Authority. “Whether it’s a full train set or a few extra pieces, every donation helps build something meaningful for future generations and keeps that railroad spirit alive.”

Donations are tax-deductible, and arrangements for drop-off or pickup can be made by contacting Pickard at 906-241-0888.

Starting at $3.50/week.
