Archaeologist to present DCHS program

ESCANABA — The first of three programs in the Delta County Historical Society’s 2020 Winter Outreach series Is scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 19.

Eric Drake, Hiawatha National Forest archaeologist and Heritage Program manager, will talk about Anishinaabe loggers at Nahma in his program entitled “Working to Stay Together in ‘Forsaken Out of the Way Places.'” The program, based on his doctoral dissertation, is subtitled “Investigating Anishinaabe Logging Settlements as Sites of Social Refuge and Resilience.”

The presentation begins at 7 p.m. in Room 952 of the Heirman Center at Bay College. The public is welcome. There is no admission fee for the program.

The remaining programs are “Another Wednesday with Bernie,” presented by Richard Anzalone on March 25, and an illustrated talk about Escanaba in the Great Depression, presented by Dr. Charles Lindquist on April 29.
