Esky, Gladstone voter forums canceled

ESCANABA — The League of Women Voters of Delta County has canceled its forum for Escanaba City Council and the Gladstone City Commission candidates. Arrangements were made to host a forum on Oct. 16. In order to comply with League rules regarding forums, the group needed the majority of candidates to participate. Due to non-response, late response or other commitments, the local League did not meet this goal. In Escanaba, two of the four candidates were willing to appear. In Gladstone, the same, except for one late response, after the forum was canceled.

“The LWVDC takes seriously our mission to provide voter education to our citizens. However, we cannot deliver, if we do not have participation by the candidates. We will strive to work harder to engage our candidates in voter education events,” the group stated in a press release. “The League would like to direct voters to our online Vote Guide, www.Vote411.org. We encourage our citizens to review this site and read the responses provided by the candidates that chose to respond. The General Election is Nov. 5.
