Teen faces drug, weapons charges
MANISTIQUE — A McMillan teen was arrested for meth possession and concealed weapon charges after a traffic stop in Manistique recently, according to the Manistique Public Safety Department.
Manistique Public Safety officers and a K-9 unit arrested Martin Jacob Harju V, 19, of McMillan, for possession of meth during a traffic stop on North Houghton Avenue in Manistique at 1:30 a.m. Thursday.
Officers said after the initial traffic stop, the Public Safety K-9 alerted the officers on the vehicle, which lead to the seizure of a quantity of suspected meth and brass knuckles.
Harju was immediately taken into custody and lodged at the Schoolcraft County Sheriff’s Department jail.
On Thursday, Harju appeared before the Schoolcraft County District Court where he was formally charged with one count of controlled substance – delivery/manufacture – meth and one count of weapons – carrying concealed.
Harju’s bond was set at $10,000 cash or surety with 10 percent allowed.
The probable cause hearing was set for 9 a.m. on Sept. 11 and the preliminary examination hearing was set for 11 a.m. on Sept. 18.
