Engaging Youth program plans zoo trip

ESCANABA — The Delta-Schoolcraft Intermediate School District’s Engaging Youth in the Community program is planning its second event. The free activity is for youth ages 8-18.

A trip to the DeYoung Zoo in Wallace is planned Tuesday, Aug. 13. A school bus will pick up students at noon at the Webster Elementary School in Escanaba. It will then pick up students at 12:15 p.m. at the Upper Elementary School in Escanaba. The bus will also pick up students at Hannahville before heading to the zoo. The Hannahville arrival home will be at 4 p.m. A second bus will depart from Gladstone at 12:15 p.m. from the Gladstone Middle School..

Engaging Youth in the Community’s first activity was an outing at the DNR Pocket Park at the U.P. State Fairgrounds.

To attend, fill out an admission form and return it to the Escanaba Upper Elementary School, the Webster Kindergarten Center’s lunch room staff, Nah Tah Wahsh/Hannahville school lunch room, the Gladstone Middle School lunch room, or the main office at the Delta-Sschoolcraft Intermediate School District. In the event of rain, youth will spend the fun time at the Escanaba Civic Center.

School bus transportation will be provided and all students must have a field trip form turned in by Aug. 12. The maximum number of students for the trip is 60. There will be male and female chaperons, all of whom will have passed a background check prior to the trip.
