ESCANABA — The Escanaba Public Safety Department responded to a pair of fires recently.

At 2 p.m. Friday, the department received a report of a lawnmower that had caught fire at Gardens of Rest Memorial Park in Wells. Escanaba Public Safety extinguished the fire without incident..

At 1:49 a.m. Saturday, a vehicle caught fire on a Gene’s Towing flatbed truck driving on 2nd Avenue North.

The truck’s driver tried to use a fire extinguisher to put the fire out, but was unsuccessful.

No one was injured as a result of the fire, which was extinguished by Escanaba Public Safety. The vehicle that caught on fire received severe damage; additionally, the truck’s cab and flatbed received some smoke damage.
