BARK RIVER — Northern Sun Winery and patrons at its June 17 “Funday Sunday” Benefit Concert in Bark River raised $800 for Honor Flight programs for military veterans.

“The community outpouring of support for Honor Flight was certainly evident in the concert turnout and gave our friends and neighbors an opportunity to do good while enjoying the captivating music of U.P. Gumbo,” said Dave Anthony, who is Northern Sun’s owner with his wife Susie. “We are proud to help such a worthwhile cause through our summer concert series.”

According to Honor Flight board member Paula Waeghe, concert proceeds will go toward future Honor Flight trips to Washington DC that recognize World War II, Korean War and Vietnam War veterans for their military service.

“We were quite pleased to have this community support to help keep the program running for our veterans,” she said. “Dave and Susie are awesome hosts, and the weather was great.”

Upcoming “Funday Sunday” Benefit Concerts in the 2018 series:

– July 15, concert goers can enjoy the “retro soul pop” music of Genna and Jesse and at the same time support Bonifas Art Center programs, and

Concert Benefits Honor Flight

– Aug 19, to benefit Escanaba Kiwanis Club work, a performance by singer-songwriter Kitty Donohoe will feature her Michigan and American folk roots along with contemporary blues and Irish and Canadian music.

All concerts begin at 4 p.m. and go on rain or shine. Prior to the concert, visitors can spread their blanket or set up their chairs under the outdoor pergola to enjoy wine samples from the winery’s tasting room; picnic lunches or snacks are welcome, too (no carry-in alcoholic beverages permitted). A free tour of the vineyard and wine cellar begins about 3 p.m.

There is a fee to attend. Advance tickets are available at the Delta County Chamber of Commerce and the winery.

Northern Sun Winery and Vineyard is located in the rolling hills south of Bark River at 983 10th Road. Follow directional signs from U.S. 2 and on southbound D Road (South Bark River Road).
