UPHS – Doctors Park welcomes Lemanek

ESCANABA – UP Health System – Doctors Park welcomes Leslie Lemanek, MD, to its Family Medicine team.

Dr. Lemanek earned her bachelor of science at Northern Michigan University before receiving her Doctor of Medicine at the Wayne State University School of Medicine and completing the Family Residency Program at the Dwight D. Eisenhower Army Medical Center. She has served as a Family Medicine team physician since August 2015, providing health care for a patient panel of approximately 1,000 pediatric, adult and geriatric patients at the Bassett Army Community Hospital.

“My family has deep roots in the UP and has lived here since the late 1930s,” Dr. Lemanek said. “I was raised near Tahquamenon Falls and completed my undergraduate training at Northern Michigan University.

“I have yet to find an area as unique and special as the UP. I knew I wanted to return here to practice and to live, and thankfully, I was given the opportunity to do that.”

UPHS – Doctors Park offers a full-spectrum of primary care services including annual physical exams, well-child exams, pediatrics, geriatrics, women’s health, minor outpatient surgery, allergy injections, diabetes education, nutrition counseling and more.

“I believe in a patient-centered approach to health care and feel that a good working relationship between a physician and their patients can help improve the quality of health care a patient receives,” Dr. Lemanek said. “I also stress the importance of preventative medicine and routine health screenings to prevent or identify and manage various medical conditions early.”

Dr. Lemanek is also a strong proponent of incorporating alternative therapies such as acupuncture, physical manipulative therapies, exercise therapies and more to augment traditional medical treatments, particularly for chronic conditions. In addition to those, she has special areas of interest in women’s health and the unique healthcare needs of the LGTB community.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Lemanek is interested in the outdoors and staying active. She also enjoys traveling internationally and within the US, as well as nature photography.

“I love kayaking, hiking, cross country skiing and snowmobiling,” she said. “Most recently, I’ve gotten into gravel biking and will be attempting two gravel bike races this fall and can’t wait to explore the UP-fat tire biking world!”

Dr. Lemanek will be practicing at UPHS – Doctors Park, located at 710 S. Lincoln Rd in Escanaba. To learn more about UPHS – Doctors Park Family Medicine visit http://www.mgh.org/FamilyMedicine, or to make an appointment call 906.786.4628.
