Soo Line Steam Engine Authority meeting Monday

GLADSTONE — The Gladstone Michigan Soo Line Steam Engine #730 Authority will hold its regular Monthly meeting on Aug. 11 at 4:30 p.m. at Solid Rock Church, 819 Delta Ave.

The group will reflect on the golf fundraiser held in May and plan for the next event, scheduled for May 28, 2026. An update will be given on the status of work being done at the locomotive site will be given, and ideas for long-term future objectives will be sought for the Historical Museum and Welcome center.

Planning will also begin for a Railroad Day at the Steam and Gas Engine Association Village this fall.

Donations continue to be sought for perpetual care of the train. New donations can be made for the future Gladstone/Soo Line Historical Museum as land is being sought and building plans are being formalized. All donations are being accepted by the Community Foundation for Delta County, 2420 1st Ave South, Escanaba, Michigan. 49829. Checks can be made out in care of Soo Line #730.

Anyone in the Community that would want join the Authority is encouraged to attend the Aug. 11 meeting.

Delta Coin Club meeting

ESCANABA — The next meeting of the Delta Coin Club is set for Tuesday, Aug. 12, at 5 p.m. in room 961 of the Joseph Heirman University Center Building at Bay College. Trinity Pancake Brunch set for Aug. 9

STONINGTON — The 3rd Annual Trinity Pancake Brunch will take place Saturday, Aug. 9, from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Stonington Community Hall, located at 5870 County 513 T Road.

Swedish pancakes are the highlight of the breakfast, along with buttermilk pancakes, bacon, sausage and more. Raffles, quilts, entertainment and 50/50 drawings will be happening.

The breakfast is sponsored by the Trinity Lutheran Church Women’s Group.

Holy Name Ladies Luncheon

ESCANABA — The Annual Ladies Luncheon for the Holy Name High School Class of 1964 will take place on Wednesday, Aug. 13 at St. Anne’s Parish Hall. For reservations, contact Jalene Miller at jalenem@charter.net or 906 233-7128 by Aug. 8.

Steam and Gas Engine Association book

ESCANABA — “The Upper Peninsula Steam & Gas Engine Association: A Narrative History,” a book celebrating of the association’s first 50 years, will be available for purchase at the U.P. State Fair, during the association’s annual Labor Day Show, and during Christmas in the Village. The book is filled with pictures and stories about the group and its history. The price is $35.

Escanaba Quarterback Club Meat Raffle

ESCANABA — The Escanaba Quarterback Club Meat Raffle will take place at the Escanaba Elks Lodge on Saturday, Aug. 9. The event is open to the public.

Nine meat raffle drawings will take place between 1 p.m. and 6 p.m., with 30 minutes between drawings. Each drawing will include five meat items, with more than $2,100 in meat to be given away during the event. Tickets will be sold six for $5.

At 4 and 6 p.m., pistol raffles will take place. One pistol will be given away at each raffle.

A Crown Royal Basket raffle will take place at 5 p.m. with numerous bottles being given away.

The event will also include karaoke from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m., and the kitchen will be open with a limited menu.

All proceeds will benefit the Escanaba Quarterback Club.

Esky Class of 1965 reunion

ESCANABA — The Escanaba Class of 1965 60th reunion will be held Saturday, Sept. 6 from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the Island Resort and Casino.

Twenty-two rooms have been reserved for attendees who wish to stay overnight at the casino’s hotel. Those needing a room at the casino should book at least a month in advance and mention “Escanaba Class of 1965 Reunion.”

A tentative plan for the reunion includes an informal get-together at the Escanaba football stadium Friday, followed byu a social hour at a bar.

The event cost is estimated at $30-35, to include a buffet, cash bar and some displays. The reunion committee will start working by early May. For questions, suggestions or to help with planning, contact Mark Miller at 906-786-1507.
