Cemetery rummage sale

ESCANABA — The 24th Annual Lakeview Cemetery Rummage Sale will be held June 13 from 3 to 7 p.m. and June 14 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Pasties in Rapid River

RAPID RIVER — Fresh pasties will be available at St. Charles parish center in Rapid River on Tuesday, June 24. Pickup is from 1 to 3:30 p.m. Call 906-474-6606 early for your July 4th pasties. Specify plain or rutabaga.

Garden museum to open

GARDEN — The Garden Peninsula Historical Society will open the Schoolhouse Museum on Friday, June 13. Volunteers are available Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Sunday from noon to 4 p.m.

There are many exhibits that detail early life on the Peninsula, including displays honoring early doctors and veterans. Available for research are family history notebooks that offer many interesting facts on the pioneer families. Names are being accepted for the Honoree Dinner scheduled for September. To be considered, a potential honoree must be a past or present resident of the Garden Peninsula and at least 80 years of age. Esky Class of 1970 reunion

ESCANABA — The Escanaba High School Class of 1970’s 55th class reunion will be held Saturday, Aug. 16 at Mo’s Pub, located at 2116 Ludington Street. A charge of $20 will be collected at the door for a buffet meal.

Many classmates also will be going out for a fish fry on Friday night at the Highland’s Golf Course starting at 5 p.m.

Veterans groups announce meeting schedule

ESCANABA — Delta County veteran’s groups have announced their meeting schedule. Amvets meetings are held at the Amvet building and American Legion Post #71 – meetings are held at Gladstone Legion. All other military organizations listed meet at the Purple Heart building, 1202 Sheridan Road in Escanaba.

Here is when each group gathers:

— Disable American Chapter #24 – first Monday of month 7 p.m.

— American Legion Post #71 Gladstone – first Wednesday of month 6 p.m.

— American Legion Post #82 – first Tuesday of month 6 p.m.

— Veterans of Foreign Wars #2998 – second Monday of month 6 p.m.

— Delta County Veterans Counsel – second Monday of month at 7 p.m. (following VFW #2998)

— Marine Corp League Detactment #444 – fourth Wednesday of month 7 p.m.

— Military Order of the Purple Heart Chapter #1976 – last Thursday of month 6 p.m.

— Escanaba Amvets Post #123 – last Thursday of month 6 p.m.

St. Anthony’s pasty sale

ESCANABA — St. Anthony’s Church is having a pasty sale June 12 and 13. Pick up will be at St. Thomas Church in Escanaba. To preorder, call or text Debbie at 906-399-4259. Limited extra pasties will be available in the late afternoon.

Delivery will also be available to Escanaba businesses.

Rally planned

ESCANABA — Delta County Unified, an Indivisible group, is holding a rally on June 14 from noon until 4 p.m. The “Flag and Country, Not Kings” rally will be held at the Karas Memorial Bandshell in Ludington Park. Guest speakers will be discussing topics ranging from county issues, education and library issues, veterans concerns, Native American concerns, immigration issues and more.

The afternoon will focus on the impact of President Donald Trump’s policies on the local community. Those attending are encouraged to bring a picnic lunch.

Flag disposal June 14

GLADSTONE — The American Legion Post 71 in Gladstone is currently collecting them for proper disposal. Flags are being collected in a container located outside of post.

On Flag Day, Saturday, June 14, 6 p.m., Gladstone American Legion Post 71 will be having a “Dignified Disposal of Unserviceable Flags” at the Delta County Veterans Park in Gladstone. Flags can be dropped off before the event in the container outside the post or can be brought directly to the ceremony.

AmVets golf fundraiser

ESCANABA — The AmVets will be holding a golf fundraiser on June 14 at the Highland Golf Course, starting at 10 a.m. The $60 per person entry fee includes cart and a luncheon. There will be prizes for longest ball and closest to pin.

Gladstone Class of 1970 reunion

GLADSTONE — Gladstone High School Class of 1970 is having a 55th class reunion on Saturday, Aug. 23. The reunion will take place at the Lake Bluff Retirement Village’s Community Center located at 401 Kenneally Blvd., Gladstone, beginning at 4 p.m. More information will be posted as soon as possible on the GHS Class of 1970 Facebook page.

Rapid Readers to meet

RAPID RIVER — The Rapid Readers’s June discussion of “The Hidden Life of Trees” by Peter Wohlleben will take place at Jack’s Restaurant in Rapid River on Monday, June 23 at 10 a.m.

Manistique Class of 1975

MANISTIQUE — The 50th class reunion of Manistique High School Class of 1975 will be held at the Indian Lake Golf and Country Club on July 12. The time and ticket price will soon be determined. Planning is in progress and the class is looking for members to serve on the planning committee.
