Gladstone Smear League begins season

GLADSTONE — The Gladstone Smear League, formerly the All Saints Smear League, will begin a new season Thursday, Sept. 19. The Smear League will play all of its games at the Knights of Columbus Hall on the 700 block of Delta Avenue in Gladstone.

Anyone interested in playing as a sub or regular player can call Don Howes at 428-9825.

RICC, Mix and Mingle brat sales planned

ESCANABA — Delta Country Regional Inclusive Community Coalition (RICC) and Mix and Mingle are having brat and hot dog fundraisers at Elmer’s County Market on Friday, Sept. 13 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Friday, Sept. 20 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. All proceeds will benefit the Mix and Mingle Community Events.

U.P. Legion conference

LITTLE LAKE, Mich. — The U.P. Association 2019 Fall Conference will be in Little Lake at Post 349 on Saturday, Oct. 5.

The schedule is as follows:

9 a.m. — Service Officers School of Instruction at Post 349

10:30 a.m. — 11th and 12th District meetings at Post 349

Noon to 1 p.m. — Lunch at Post 349

1 p.m. — U.P. Association Meeting at Post 349

The U.P. Association does not have a host for the 2020 Mid-winter Conference to be held at the end of the Department Commander’s Winter Tour of the Upper Peninsula in January. Legion members are asked to consult their posts about the possibility of hosting this event. Interested posts should contact Commander Morrison or Raymond Carlson.

Alano Club to hold 36th anniversary celebration

GLADSTONE — The 36th anniversary celebration of the Delta Alano Club will be Sunday, Sept. 29. The days activities begin at 3:36 p.m. with the annual meeting. Guest speaker will be Cory L. A potluck supper will follow the talk. Friends of Dr. Bob and Bill W. are encouraged to attend.

Muskrat demo at ­U.P. Trappers meeting

HERMANSVILLE — District three of the U.P. Trappers Association will be holding their regular meeting Thursday, Sept. 12 at approximately 6:30 p.m. Central Time (7:30 p.m. Eastern) at the Anderson Sportsman’s Club in Hermansville. Trappers will be picking up trash along three miles of highway before the meeting, so the exact start time of the meeting can’t be predicted.

Anyone interested in trapping is welcome to attend.

Bob Steinmetz will be doing a muskrat trapping demo based on his 48 years of trapping experience and will be gearing the presentation toward youngsters and other beginning trappers. Steinmetz loves to pass along the many things he has learned over the years and especially likes instructing youngsters who want to learn.

Sons of the American Legion to meet Sept. 12

GLADSTONE — The next meeting of the Gladstone Sons of the American Legion Squadron 71 will be Thursday, Sept. 12 at 7:30 p.m. The Sons meet at American Legion, 802 Delta Ave. Gladstone. If you are a male descendant of a veteran who served in the time of war or conflict, you are eligible for membership.

Taco Tuesday returns

GLADSTONE — Taco Tuesday is returning at the Gladstone American Legion Post 71 starting Sept. 10, serving from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. The public is welcome. The events are held at Gladstone American Legion Auxiliary Unit 71, 802 Delta Ave, in Gladstone.
