A Journey Through Grief

ESCANABA — “A Journey Through Grief” is a bereavement support group presented to individuals on behalf of UP Health System Hospice. This is a non-denominational support group that is open to anyone who has experienced the loss of a loved one. The group provides educational materials and guided discussions on a variety of topics to assist those in the grieving process.

“A Journey Through Grief” is offered the last Thursday of every month. The next session is scheduled for Thursday, July 25 from 4 to 5:30 p.m. at St. Thomas Church, 1820 9th Ave. North, Escanaba.

The group will be facilitated by Lewis Hague, UP Health System Hospice Bereavement Coordinator and coordinated by Gayle DeShambo, account executive for UP Health System Hospice.

This support group is open to anyone in the community that is grieving the loss of a loved one.

AAUW to tour Cultural Center July 27

HANNAHVILLE — On Saturday, July 27, American Association of University Women (AAUW) members will meet at the Native American Cultural Center in Hannahville for a tour of the facility. The tour will include a Native American-themed lunch. A small fee will be charged for lunch and reservations are required. Members and guests are asked to call 786-3415 no later than July 23 if they plan to attend. Those who have already signed up do not need to call as their reservation has been confirmed. Questions should be directed to the number listed above.

AAUW was established in 1881 and is open to men and women holding an associate degree or higher. The group promotes gender equity and life-long learning. For further information about AAUW, call 399-6080.

All Strings Considered

ESCANABA — Old-time string band All Strings Considered will play a free outdoor concert at the Escanaba Public Library, Thursday, Aug. 1 at 6:30 p.m.

All Strings Considered has a focus on traditional instrumental and vocal music of the southern Appalachian mountain region.

The concert is sponsored by the Friends of the Escanaba Public Library and is appropriate for all ages.

Purple Heart 1976 meeting on July 25

ESCANABA — The Military Order of the Purple Heart (MOPH) Chapter 1976 will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 25, at the clubhouse building, 1202 Sheridan Road.

The MOPH is for all military veterans who sustained combat wounds during their service to the country. For details, contact Dennis Grall at 789-9005.

Lunch available at Gladstone Senior Center

GLADSTONE — Come to the Gladstone Senior Center for entertainment and lunch every weekday at 11:30 a.m. If you are age 60 or older, you can get a balanced meal for a donation.

There is a different meal each day, and a monthly schedule of the meals is available at the Senior Center.

Toastmasters to meet

ESCANABA — Bay De Noc Toastmasters develops communication and leadership skills every Wednesday, except the last Wednesday of the month, at noon in the Penstar Building, located at 1431 N. 26th St. in Escanaba.
