American Legion to meet Wednesday

FLAT ROCK — The regular monthly meeting of the Escanaba River American Legion Post 115 will be held at the Escanaba Township Hall at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 3.

All Strings Considered free concert Aug. 1

ESCANABA — Old-time string band All Strings Considered will play a free outdoor concert at the Escanaba Public Library, Thursday, Aug. 1 at 6:30 p.m.

All Strings Considered has a focus on traditional instrumental and vocal music of the southern Appalachian mountain region.

The concert is sponsored by the Friends of the Escanaba Public Library and is appropriate for all ages.

Rapid Readers to meet

RAPID RIVER — The Rapid Readers Book Club will convene at Jack’s Restaurant in Rapid River Thursday, July 11 at 10 a.m. The topic of discussion will be “Where the Crawdads Sing” by Delia Owens, and the novel for Aug. 8 is “Becoming” by Michelle Obama.

The book list for the remainder of 2019 and 2020 has not been compiled. Suggestions will be collected at the July meeting. Book suggestions should include at least one nonfiction title. List suggestions can be submitted to the Facebook group site, if it is more convenient.

Studio tour and salad luncheon event planned

GARDEN — On Saturday, July 20, the Village Artisans of Garden will sponsor a tour of artists’ studios and a salad luncheon. This annual event showcases different places of interest on the peninsula each year. The proceeds are used for the children’s art and enrichment programs the Village Artisans provide.

The studios this year will feature painting, pottery, glass working and wood carving. An added attraction will be a presentation on wool artistry and fiber to be repeated at intervals throughout the day in the workroom of the Garden Gallery.

Tickets for the tour, along with a brochure and map, may be obtained at the Garden Gallery, 6763 State Street in Garden, beginning at 10 a.m. on July 20. The tour will run from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. and the luncheon will be served at St. John Hall from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.

Heart of the North Lions change meeting date

BARK RIVER — Due to the Fourth of July, the Heart of the North Lions Club regular monthly meeting will be held Thursday, July 11, at 6:45 p.m. at the Bark River Area Senior Center.

Heart of the North Lions Club welcomes new members. Meetings are usually held the first Thursday of each month at 6:45 p.m. If you are interested in giving back to your community, you are invited to visit a meeting and see if Lions is for you.

The Heart of the North Lions Club is part of Lions Clubs International, the largest service club organization in the world. Escanaba Class of 1984

ESCANABA — The Escanaba Class of 1984 reunion is planned for Saturday, July 6. Please RSVP to Lynn Arguello by emailing llynniearguello@gmail.com or calling 970-306-5400 if you have not already done so.

All of the festivities will take place at the Terrace Bluff Golf Club in Gladstone. The evening will include appetizers, a cash bar, DJ’d dancing, and golf.

There is a cost to attend and an additional cost for golfing. Contact Arguello for cost and payment information.
