Gladstone baseball sweeps Menominee

MENOMINEE — A day filled with big hits propelled Gladstone baseball to a pair of victories 13-5 and 11-10 over Menominee on Monday.

Braves junior Casey Alworden got a lead-off single in the top of the first to start game one. Nate Young drew a walk putting runners on first and second. Gavin Frossard hit a ground ball and reached on a fielders choice that scored a run and the Braves led 1-0.

The Maroons tied the game in the bottom of the first as Landon Bardowski had a lead-off single and Aiden Sevon drew a walk to put runners on first and second with no outs. Bardowski stole third base and came home on a wild throw.

Frossard hit a sacrifice fly to centerfield in the top of the third inning to put the Braves back in front 2-1.

In the bottom of the second inning, Cam Gauthier hit a sacrifice fly to right to tie the game at two and Dylan Beal smashed a double to centerfield to score two runs and Maroons took the lead back at 4-2.

Gladstone answered in the top of the fourth, John Soderman singled on a flyball to center to score a run and Frossard followed it up with a line drive down the leftfield line to score two runs and the Braves led 5-4.

The Braves would add on eight more runs over the last two innings to end the game.

Austin Pepin got the win for the Braves in game one pitching four and a third innings allowing five runs on four hits with three strikeouts and three walks.

Gladstone built a 6-0 lead to start game two, Pepin and Alworden each had two hits in the contest.

Frossard got the win for the Braves pitching five innings allowing five runs on four hits with two strikeouts and three walks.
