BR-H Class of 1956 reunion planned

HARRIS — The Bark River-Harris Class of 1956 will be having a class reunion on July 6, 2019, at the Terrace Bay Hotel. Anyone who would like to attend is asked to call Pat Taylor at 906-428-1904.

DAV meeting is Jan. 7

ESCANABA — The next scheduled meeting for the DAV Chapter 24 will be held on Monday, Jan. 7 at the Military Order of the Purple Heart building, located at 1202 Sheridan Road, Escanaba. All disabled veterans are welcome.

Delta Kappa Gamma scholarship available

ESCANABA — The Delta Kappa Gamma Society has announced that it will again award a local high school scholarship to a senior girl planning a career in education. Delta Kappa Gamma is an international organization of women educators who promote the professional and personal growth of women educators.

Delta Kappa Gamma supports and encourages educational excellence and intercultural understanding. The Beta Sigma chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma is composed of Escanaba, Menominee, and Iron Mountain-Kingsford.

Previous local winners of this scholarship were: 2018 – a Bark River student, 2017 – Erica Rubick (Rapid River), 2016 – Mackenzie Leisner (Escanaba), 2015 – Mikaela Jefferson (Escanaba), 2014 – Kristen Leigh Bergstrom (Escanaba), 2013 – Anissa Lynne Godfrey (Gladstone), 2012 – Margaret A. Rose (Escanaba), 2011 – Lauren Kleinman (Escanaba), 2010 – Jordan Dalgord (Rapid River), 2009 – Whitney Veihl (Bark River), and 2008 – Emily Robinson (Bark River).

Senior girls planning a career in education from the Delta Schoolcraft area can learn further details about this scholarship from their high school guidance counselor. Applications are due April 26, 2019. Any questions can be directed to Rose at 786-5674 or Jeanne at 789-0110.

Veterans Council to hold meeting Jan. 9

ESCANABA — Delta County Veterans Council will hold its next regular meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9, at the Purple Heart Building, 1202 Sheridan Road.

Class of 1963 lunch

ESCANABA — The gals of the Escanaba High School Class of 1963 will be holding a monthly noon ladies’ lunch the second Wednesday of every month at the Family Inn Restaurant. Memorial UMC Clothes Closet open to public

GLADSTONE — The Memorial United Methodist Clothes Closet is open each Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Gently used clothing is available for all. The church is located at 1920 Lake Shore Drive.

Day Services seeks printed materials

ESCANABA — Community Action Agency Adult Day Services, formerly Perspectives Adult Care Center, is in need of your old greeting cards and magazines to be used in different activities.

The pictures will be used to make notepads, bookmarks, and daily placemats. Cards do not have to be taken apart, as they will be incorporated into an activity.

Items may be dropped off at Community Action Adult Day Services, located at the Gary Abrahamson Jr. Memory Care Center, 2635 1st Ave. S. in Escanaba (past West Highland, the last building on the left behind Bishop Noa Home) or at any senior center in the Delta County area.
