Lecture series at East Ludington Gallery

ESCANABA — The East Ludington Gallery, 1007 Ludington St. Escanaba, will be having a lecture series the third Thursday of every month.

This month will be Tracy Anderson – Scratchboard. The art of scratchboard involves using various tools on white clayboard that has been painted black to create art with exceptional detail and realism.

The lecture will take place on July 19 from 7 to 8 p.m. and is open to the public free of charge.

Escanaba Class of 1949 get-together

ESCANABA — Escanaba’s graduating class of 1949 is having a luncheon get-together at the Stonehouse of Friday, Aug. 3 at noon.

Spouses or other companions are welcome.

Country Express to play at Amvets this Friday

ESCANABA — Amvets Post 123 at 1315 North Lincoln Road Escanaba is featuring country and variety band Country Express Friday, July 13 from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. The public is welcome.

Summer Fun Ride for Honor Flight Saturday

POWERS — The Upper Peninsula Honor Flight will be hosting a Summer Fun Ride for motorcycle riders on Saturday, July 14. The ride departs from TJ’s Sports Bar in Powers at noon CST.

Money raised from the ride benefits the Honor Flight, which takes U.P. veterans on an all-expense-paid trip to Washington, D.C. to see the monuments built in their honor.

In addition to the ride, there will be food, silent auctions, and 50/50 raffles. Music will be provided by Kamikaze Blitz beginning at 8 p.m.

Kiwanis Club holds meeting Wednesday

GLADSTONE — The Gladstone-Rapid River Kiwanis Club holds weekly meetings every Wednesday at 7 a.m. at the First Lutheran Church, 1212 Minneapolis Ave., Gladstone. Plan to attend a meeting and hear about on-going activities in support of community kids.

NARFE Chapter 1900 pasty picnic July 25

MARQUETTE — The National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association (NARFE) Chapter 1900 will hold its annual members’ pasty picnic at noon, Wednesday, July 25, at the Crossroads Restaurant on M553 and CR480 south of Marquette.

This year’s event will celebrate the chapter’s 35th anniversary and will include recognition of people who have been chapter members for 30 years or more.

The meal will include a pasty, coleslaw and a non-alcoholic beverage. The meal is free for Chapter 1900 members and one guest per member. Members must register for the meal by July 18, by contacting Diana Peterson at (906) 225-0333, or Clyde and Maggie Morgan at (906) 475-0362.

Legislators, legislative candidates, and their representatives have been invited for brief remarks. A memorial service will honor NARFE members who passed away in the past year.

The pasty picnic takes the place of the regular monthly NARFE meeting for July.
