Lippens celebrate 60 years of marriage

Adolph (Jr.) and Phyllis (Schermer) Lippens

ESCANABA — Adolph (Jr.) and Phyllis (Schermer) Lippens celebrated their 60th Anniversary. The couple was married on Aug. 25 1962, at the Sacred Heart Church in Schaffer.

Original attendants were the groom’s brother, John Lippens; bride’s brother, Harold Schermer; nephew, Jim Lippens; bride’s sister, the late Nancy (Schermer) Fisher; bride’s friend, the late Sandy (Therian) Groleau; sister-in-law, the late Judy (Geb) Lippens; flower girl, neice Jill Stenfors; and junior bridesmaid, groom’s sister Barbara (Lippens) Sheedlo.

Adolf retired in 2000 after 38 years with the Chicago and Northwestern Union Pacific in Wisconsin Central railroads as a machine operator. His hobbies include vegetable and flower gardening, hunting, fishing in the summer and winter, and traveling.

Phyllis retired in 2001 after 13 years with the U.P. State Credit Union as a loan officer. Phyllis’s hobbies are cooking, sewing, knitting, reading, volunteer and traveling.

Adolph and Phyllis have four children, 10 grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Their children are Son, Bill (Brenda) Lippens of Bark River (children Elizabeth and Sarah); son, Jerry (Stephanie) Lippens of Wakeforest N.C. (children Corey, Briana, Nicholas and Connor); daughter, Ann (Jim) Chenier (children, Allison and Troy); and daughter, Jean (Mick) Maslowski of Cloquet, Minn. (children, Lauren and Carlee).

The couple was given a surprise party by their children the night before their anniversary. Their grandchildren and great-grandchildren were also there to spend time celebrating the 60th anniversary.

Adolph and Phyllis have spent 20 years traveling throughout the United States, Canada and most of Europe, Australia, Africa and China. They hope to do more traveling in the future.
