Clarification from candidate

EDITOR: I am writing in reference to the Oct. 30, 2021 Daily Press article “City leadership, millages on Nov. 2 ballot” and specifically to the statement “If elected Tuesday, this will be the first time Pontius has joined the commission through the democratic process.” I would like to clarify for the record that I (“Pontius”) did not seize a seat on the Gladstone City Commission by military coup nor by any kind of “undemocratic” means, as might be surmised from the article’s choice of wording. IRS reporting proposal

EDITOR: We typically do not raise issues occurring in Washington with the public, but because the people in our community are important to us, we want to inform our neighbors of proposed legislation that could significantly impact millions of families and small businesses. There is currently proposed legislation that, if enacted, would require all financial institutions to report to the IRS the gross financial inflows and outflows of every business and personal customer account above $10,000. Enbridge remains vigilant, focused on safety

EDITOR: We respect the recent editorial from the Detroit News for highlighting the importance of energy security related to our infrastructure. To be clear, Enbridge’s response to the recent criminal attack on a Line 5 valve site was immediate and appropriate with operators safely securing the pipeline before trespassers could do damage or put at risk those involved in the attack, the community or the environment. Voters deserve more transparency

EDITOR: As you may be aware I spoke at the Escanaba City Council meeting last Thursday regarding the cover up of taxpayer funds missing for nearly one year (later admitted by Councilman Blazier) and asked for the resignations from Mayor Tall and Councilman Blazier. It was not well received by both because as I stated the coverup favored the two incumbents (Tall and Blazier) going into the election on November 2nd. Candidate forum clarification

EDITOR: The League of Women Voters of Delta County is a non-partisan, volunteer organization that works very hard to bring voter education to our citizens. Recently we hosted a forum for candidates running for the Escanaba City Council and the Gladstone City Commission. Headline was misleading

EDITOR: I read the story in todays paper about a “controversy” with our city council. After reading the story I find the headline is really misleading. And, also not fair to the city council members who are seeking re-election. From what I can determine, council followed all appropriate protocols in handling this issue. This matter is being investigated by multiple law enforcement agencies per the request of council. Not making a criminal investigation public at this stage is “proper” procedure.
