Thanksgiving ‘above the stairs’

EDITOR: Last Thanksgiving, I shared a story about Thanksgiving “Under the Stairs” where a group of inmates in the Delta County Jail were meeting nightly for prayer and Bible sharing. They were meeting under a stairway in their cell block. Well, a year later, another group is now meeting ‘above the stairs’ in a different block. But, the content and emphasis are the same, an endeavor where a group of men are gathering behind bars to be “thankful, prayerful, united and eager to see their incarceration in not such a potentially, negative light. Such a group of men seeking ...

Free market

EDITOR: This is about those people that truly believe that we have a so called, “free market for goods and service to serve our nation.” From what I have been reading concerning this issue, to make prices fair for the consumer, this is far from the truth. One just has to look what happen to prices increase lately and the connection to the pandemic. What is really happening all these large corporations buy out their competitors. They control that market and by doing this they eliminate those people and raise prices at their own will. Look what happened when the Senate and House of ...

United States flag etiquette

EDITOR: 1. Judi LaCosse announced her ignorance of United States Flag Etiquette in her letter to the Editor published on November 9. 2. During The Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag: “Members of the Armed Forces not in uniform and veterans may render the military salute in the manner provided for persons in uniform.” I assure you that “the manner provided for persons in uniform,” provides that if I started with my cover* on, the cover would remain on. * – “Cover” is military jargon for the objects civilians call “hats.” 3. I am a veteran – four years Michigan ...

$450,000 payments

EDITOR: The Biden Administration is working on a deal to pay illegals $450,000 because they were separated when they came across the border illegally. On Thursday, Nov. 4th, or Friday, Nov. 5th, the president was asked directly about these payments and he flatly denied that there was any talk of payments. Later that day, the Department of Justice spokesperson confirmed that they were in negotiations with the ACLU to come up with a plan to pay up to $450,000 to families that were separated at the border, where they illegally crossed. Supposedly, the ACLU and the Justice Dept. are ...

Councilman’s disrespect

EDITOR: I was watching the City of Escanaba council meeting on Thursday, November 4. When they were saying the Pledge of Allegiance I noticed Mr. Blasier left his hat on. He left it on during the entire meeting. When the camera did a close up of him I notice the hat’s saying “Let’s Go Brandon” which means F Biden. I found this to be very disturbing that a council person would have that much disrespect at a public meeting. I guess he wasn’t pleased that he came in last place in the election. He probably was trying to make a statement to the voters by wearing it. The voters ...

Upset over accusations

EDITOR: I am addressing some issues that were printed in Saturday’s press. I am so greatly angered at the Daily Press for what they have printed about my husband. Freedom of the press is one thing but printing falsehoods is reprehensible. Since when have you ever even asked him for his side of any story or actions? You are printing false accusations and this isn’t the first time you have done so. What you have written is hurting our family and damaging to his integrity in our community and makes us look like cheats. You have no idea on what truly took place. You are going on the ...
