We deserve to know…

EDITOR:

It’s been going on for years now, but now after the Oxford School shooting last week it is hitting a little too close to home for all of us. My friend’s daughters attend school about 10 minutes from where Oxford is and are extremely scared to go to school now. Numerous threats after the shooting bombarded schools around the Detroit area. School is supposed to be a safe place for our kids to go, but its not. Just about a month ago, there was a lockdown and hold in place at Escanaba Area Public Schools due to an outside threat. As a parent of two students, I appreciate that we do have these things in place for our children and know that the schools are doing everything that they possibly can do with the resources they have. However, every parent can’t help but be feeling constant worry waiting and wondering for the all clear or what could come next. My only complaint with this procedure is that us parents and guardians never receive the details of the threat that caused our schools to lockdown. I think we should receive as many details as possible as this is not a privacy issue. These are our kids and we have a right to know what is going on. I thank the schools for everything they are doing, but I just feel like we need to be more informed as parents.
