EDITOR: As a former County Commissioner of Delta County for 12 plus years and two as chairman I very highly recommend Theresa Nelson for reelection to the county board for District 3. I have personally known Theresa for 30 years and have the upmost respect for her and the work she has done for this community. Theresa is honest, trustworthy and compassionate and has no hidden agendas. Her leadership skills far outweigh her opponent. Theresa is an extremely hard worker and dedicated to Delta County. In order to stay current with local activities Theresa attends all city council ...

Two weeks or walk?

EDITOR: The city manager works for the people of Escanaba. When I read, "I have no intention of agreeing to any changes to my contract" I read that he was told by his performance review that he hadn't performed as expected. I read that he dared the council to fire him but make sure he got his severance package. There should have been a laugh track when he said, "Then we can negotiate a new contract." Why isn't he following the contract and performing as expected? And what makes him think "If he was fired that he would even be considered for the job again? Employees without a pocket ...

EDITOR: I have known Dave Moyle for over 20 years, he served as the mayor pro term for Escanaba when my wife was mayor. There were several things that stuck out about Dave that I remember to this day, if he said he was going to do something, he did it, and he never failed once to have my wife’s back when she was mayor. Even when he called himself a Democrat, he was a staunch protector and supporter of the Second Amendment. Through the COVID-19 shut downs he did his best to protect bar and restaurant owners when nobody else at the county level would. In his current bid to get ...

Proposal 3

EDITOR: Proposal 3 will be on the ballot in November. Some will argue, passionately, for or against the Proposal, both opinions believing theirs is right. We all have witnessed, or been a part of, disagreement being debated. One thing holds true of every argument: shouting over each other or pounding the table harder than the one that holds a differing opinion, has never worked, not one time. Yet, opinions change. They change because somebody set aside their emotions and began to consider the facts. You can ignore objective truth if you want. We’ve all done it. We like our opinion ...

EDITOR: I am Aaron Deiter, a proud citizen of Escanaba, active community member and volunteer. I support and endorse KelliVan Ginhovenfor Delta County commissioner, District 4, for two main reasons. First, Kelli cares about kids. As a small business owner, she regularly donates 100% of her profits on a given day to causes benefiting area youth. She has also been a proud supporter of Lego Club at the Escanaba Public Library, donating cupcakes to our “Block Party’s” and helping create a positive and supportive environment for the group’s creative activities. Kelli understands ...

On First District Representation

EDITOR: Some of you may not remember when we had a representative in Congress who actually cared about Yoopers. Men from either party who, once in Washington, never forgot whom they represented. Men of the caliber of Stupak, Ruppe, and others who shared our concerns as they shared our unique part of the state. Whether or not one agreed with them, one never doubted that they always wanted what was best for this legislative district. Alas, no more. Now, it seems, we have a man who dreams of his retirement home in Louisiana while blindly following the party line. Remember when he came ...
