Yellow perch anglers reported fair to good fishing, though action varied from day to day, with schools located in 20 feet of water or deeper. Coho salmon anglers reported a few fish in the river. Sept. 6, 1966 — Jim Sundalius captured the Gladstone Golf Club men’s title, defeating last year’s champ Pete Peterson 2-and-1. Sundalius clinched his first club championship by sinking a 45-foot putt on the 17th green. Gene Harris was the consolation winner in the championship flight and Joe Butch was the winner in the first flight. MANISTIQUE — Several area cross country runners gave chase, but it was the leaders from the Eastern Upper Peninsula who occupied the top spots in the Manistique Emerald Invitational here Wednesday. Sault Ste. Marie swept both titles with the girls scoring 45 points, followed by Munising 63, Rudyard 74 and Rapid River and Superior Central 100.
