Flivvers defeat Braves for district title

GLADSTONE – A 15-0 run was not enough for the Gladstone Braves here Friday as they fell 49-43 to the Kingsford Flivvers.

The Braves started their 15-0 run in the second quarter as Teagan Reynolds knocked down a pair of free throws and Will Inghram drove to the basket for a layup to cut the deficit to 25-20.

Braves junior Lonnie Davey knocked down a 3-pointer and then scored a layup off a steal to tie the game at 25. The Braves took the lead at 27-25 on a layup by junior Braidyn Miron.

The Braves extended the lead on a layup by sophomore Alex Prins and capped off the run on a layup by Reynolds who finished with eight points on the night.

“We had the lead in every quarter tonight,” Braves coach Jake Keisby said. “We want our kids to remember this feeling so when we get back to this team it will help us prepare for this situation.”

The fourth quarter belonged to the Flivvers as they outscored the Braves 15-6. Senior Owen Olkkonen scored eight of his 13 points in the fourth quarter including a pair of 3-pointers, the first one gave the Flivvers a 41-40 lead and the second one extended the Flivvers lead to 46-40.

Jett Buckley was also in double figures for the Flivvers with 11 points.

The Braves were led in scoring by Lonnie Davey with 16 points and Alex Prins added 12.

The Flivvers advance to the regional semifinal tonight where they face Cheyboygan at 7 p.m. in Manistique.
